Jesus said to his disciples after his resurrection, “Go, therefore, and make disciples from all nations. ..Teach them to fulfill all that I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28: 19-20) Preaching is a ministry allotted to the disciples of Christ.
Sermon is a special ministry of the disciples of Christ
Announcing the Gospel through preaching has been an important mission of church. That is why St. Paul writes to the Romans, “But how can they call upon the name of the Lord without having believed in him? And how can they believe in him without having first heard about him? And how will they hear about him if no one preaches about him? And how will they preach about him if no one sends them?” (Romans 10: 14-15) Sermons are the means of telling about Christ and his teachings.
