Birth Anniversary of a Non-violent Mahatma Who Toppled the Mighty British

He was a frail man. Winston Churchill, the former British Prime Minister, described him a “half-naked fakir”. Non-violence was his only weapon to conquer the Great Empire which did not see sunset.
President Barack Obama honored Mahatma Gandhi two years back on this great Indian leader’s birthday, saying that his teachings influenced and transformed American society. Paying tributes to Gandhi he said that it was Gandhi’s teachings and ideals that influenced Martin Luther King Jr. greatly and guided him in his path of non-violence. It was Luther King’s pilgrimage to India in 1959 that transformed American society and enlightened him throughout his civil rights movement.
