Honor and Nourish Your Heritage

We are living in a history. We are living in the present, connecting the past and the future. We make use of the wisdom and the heritage of the present to better the life of today and we, on our part, will be leaving a heritage of our own to the future generations.
Every human being and everything in the universe seems to be connected with one another in some way or other. There is connectedness between people who lived on this earth and those who are occupying it now. There is also interrelatedness between animate and inanimate beings of all times. This existence leaves a tinge of heritage. Heritage is a collected wisdom.

A Village that Loves Bats Than Crackers

A village in South India is celebrating festivals without any bursting noise, just for the sake of bats. They are following this eco-loving principle for the past five generations, more than hundred years. As usual this year also they celebrated Diwali yesterday without any cracker noise.

Diwali in India means crackers and fireworks. The first thing that comes to the mind about Indian Diwali is the cracker noise that even tears the eardrum. There is no festival without cracker noise. But just for the sake of safeguarding bats which live on their village trees, people of Kazhuperumbakkam in South India never allow any bursting noise in their village. Not only for Diwali but also for other festive occasions and functions they are more concerned about these bats than enjoying crackers.

Roaring Tigers and Lions Roaming Around My House

Wild animals are kept as pets, Is it possible anywhere in the world? It is possible in some of the states in the US. Last Wednesday 58 of such dangerous exotic animals, including 18 rare Bengal tigers and 17 lions, were set free by a man who was keeping them in his farm house.

Can you imagine dangerous tigers and lions roaming around your house roaring in panic? It is not an imaginary fairy tale of Halloween horror stories. It happened just last week near my village, in Ohio country side. People of Zanesville and nearby places got frightened and hid inside their houses until they were assured that the animals were shot dead.

Obama, Diwali and Narakasura

Obama came to India during last year Diwali, the festival of fighting with Narakasura, the demon of selfishness and enlightening the world. Diwali is not just a festival of sweets and crackers; but it is an occasion to think of sharing and charity.
President Obama came to India with a message of sharing. Diwali, the festival of lights, is slipping away from us leaving some sweet memories. But the cruel Narakasura of selfishness is still there alive roaming about all over the world. The terrorism that the world is facing everyday is nothing but the incarnation of this selfishness of humanity.

Diwali, the Indian Easter

Today is Diwali. Diwali means 'row of lights'. When I wrote in another site last year that the Indian festival Diwali is Indian Easter, I had an attacking mail saying that Diwali, the Hindu festival, should not be compared to Easter the Christian festival commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is too unfortunate that she could not tolerate the main theme of both of these festivals. Both celebrate the victory of good destroying evil.

Diwali and Easter

Diwali is the Festival of Lights celebrated by the Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and some Buddhists in India as well as in other countries. It commemorates the triumph over the evil which is honored by decoration of lights. Easter is celebrated by the Christians all over he world, commemorating the victory of Jesus over sin and death. The Paschal candle and the candle processions declare that Christ is the Light of the World. New fire and light are created in the beginning of the liturgy on the Paschal Vigil.

Go Green with the Golden Lights of Diwali

Deepavali means the ‘festival of lights’. It is an occasion to caste away all kinds of darkness from the world. It is an occasion of remembrance, feasts, fireworks, forgiveness, friendship and renewal of life.
Deepavali, the festival of lights, is around us. The Sanskrit word ‘Deepavali’ means ‘a row of lamps’. A new life emerges with the flashing of silks, with decorated boxes of sweets and fruits and with the streaking of the sky with silver and golden fireworks. It is a rebirth into a sweet and sharing life. It is a time of getting together with family and friends.

Is Diwali an Indian Halloween?

Life has undergone much change in the modern computer era. Children are easily provoked. Their emotional reactions lead to more disasters. Parents should realize that they need patient and positive approach in treating their children.

Parenting is a wonderful experience. Education is one of the major areas where special pressure is placed on children, especially in India. Parents want their children to excel in their performance in school. Mother Mary, Help Us in Finding Jesus

O Mary, Mother of Jesus, I say that I am a Christian. I say that I follow Christ and his commandments. But, in fact, I have lost him somewhere. I do not know where I lost him and how I lost him. But one thing is certain that somehow I have lost him. I am groping in the darkness of sin without him, the eternal light who told, “I am the Light.”(John 8:12)

How have I lost Jesus?

The answer to this question is not known to me. So also I am sure many Christians have lost Jesus. The Christian life that we lead is only some liturgical rituals and observations. Jesus Christ is not in most of our lives. We just praise with our lips. Our minds are carried away by worries and other selfish thoughts. We are always scared of out tomorrows. Our love towards our neighbor is profit-motivated. We always calculate what will be the share of gain. We seek for the Glorious Jesus and never a Jesus with Crucifix.

Why Does Modern World Misunderstand Muslims?

There is no wonder in saying the three major religions of today have the same father of history. Christianity, Islam and Judaism have Abraham as their forefather.Their scriptures have most of the stories in common.

Islam has become the most misunderstood religion of this century, especially after the events of September 11th 2001 in the USA. Muslims have become a subject of major concern to the world media, religious groups and people of the other religions. Sporadic incidents that occur here and there are misinterpreted by the media, giving a distorted picture of what Islam is about, and what The Quran actually says.

An Apple A Day Causes Tooth Decay

There has been a saying about apple. "An apple a day keeps doctor away." It is not cent percent true in modern lifestyle. Slow eating of apple causes tooth decay and force you to the dentist
The nursery rhyme that tells the importance of eating apple, “Apple a day keeps doctor away,” has become a question mark today. Recent researches state that eating apple affects the teeth and you will have to visit the dentist frequently.

How can apple cause tooth damage?
There is nothing wrong either in the rhyme or in the truth that apple is a nutritious fruit. Apple is, of course, a good addition to any meal. It contains anti-oxidants and other nutrients for building up strength and immunity. But the way you eat it affects the dental system. A research study was performed by Dr David Bartlett, head of prosthodontics at King's College London Dental Institute. They studied in various angles about apple causing tooth decay. Their studies revealed that the trouble is with the way we eat the apple and not with apple. Daily Mail quoted the words of Dr. Bartlett saying, “Doctors quite rightly say that eating apples is good, but if you eat them slowly the high acidity levels can damage your teeth.”

He was the cobbler of the village Aranyapur which was five miles away from the banks of the River Ganges. He was in a hurry to go as the people on their way to the Ganges may need him at any time. He was very faithful to Goddess Ganges and used to do all rituals to worship her at home. On important occasions like this he would go to the river and make the holy dip.

Marriage is an age-old structure of happy living. Marital life begins with great dreams. But today marriage is being shaken by many forces. The famous historian Stephanie Coontz says, “For better or worse, marriage has been displaced from its pivotal position in personal and social life.” Marriage is losing its place of honor in the society. The pursuit for selfish gratification is plaguing marital life. Lured by seductive promises of freedom and independence, most of the people believe that divorce will be the only solution that can lead them to happiness. Significance of Dharma in Hinduism

Dharma is the symbolic word heard often in Hinduism. It is not exclusive to Hinduism. It is a way of life common to the universal family of humanity.

What is Dharma?

Dharma is a way of life common to humanity. It is not restricted to any religion, but is applicable to every human person. Dharma is mentioned in Buddhism as Dhamma. Indian religions, such as Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, and Sikhism insist that dharma is the basis of any life which is rewarded in the next life, if the present life on this earth is lived perfectly according to the norms of dharma. A life of dharma leads one to moksha (heavenly bliss) or nirvana (freedom from all bonds of life). There is no need for the question if dharma exists outside India because it pertains to every life on earth.
